    Interview Feedback

Nowadays, most candidates often face a dilemma when companies do not communicate to them the outcome of interview. While those who are selected are intimidated immediately; those who are not, often find themselves waiting for a call from the company.

It is to be understood that the outcome is unfavorable, if the company does not call within the decided time period. Ideally, Human Resource managers are supposed to communicate the result of the interview to the candidates. However, most of them prefer not to call and let the candidates understand for themselves that they no longer have a requirement for the given post.

In case you have not made it through the interview, it is necessary that you review your performance, rate it and take actions to improve the imperfections. Altering your resume, cover letters, way of dressing, manner of speaking may still not bring you success with the interviews.

The best way to conduct a thorough review would be to ask the interviewers for a feedback of your interview. A feedback is a great way to know where you stand. It shows you the areas where you lack and need improvement. It will help you to perform better in the coming interviews and finally secure a good job.

Many interviewers may not be open to give you a feedback regarding the interview. Thus, candidates have to design a careful approach to the whole process. Most candidates are perplexed as they do not know how to ask for a feedback. They should keep in mind certain points while approaching the companies for an interview feedback.

    • Wait for a week or two before you decide to give a call to the company for a feedback. Utilize this time to frame your reasons and questions to be asked to them. Make sure your reasons are acceptable and justifiable.
    • The first person whom you should contact is the one who has put together the interview schedule. For this you need to have the name and contact information of the person. More often than not, interview organizers will give you the required information in a detailed manner.

However, if they are not too keen to provide you the necessary details, try to convince them politely about your intentions of receiving a feedback. Clarify the fact that you are genuinely interested in knowing your draw backs and would like to work on them. Try to gather general information about your performance at the interview.

    • The next person that you should contact is the interviewer himself. Interviewers generally hand out their business cards during the rendezvous. At first, send an email to him communicating your interest in discussing the interview with him. Provide an objective reasoning to discuss this issue.

Similarly, make sure you frame your email in a manner in which it will be understood clearly. Avoid long winding explanations; but make sure you have put your reasons across completely.

Request them for a feedback via email or try to fix up an appointment with them for a short session. Also, mention the concerns that you would like to discuss with them.

Frame your email in such manner that it does not sound accusing to the interviewer. Similarly, it should not sound as if you are trying to find out the reason behind their decision. Stay objective and be open to constructive criticism.

    • Finally, after you get a feedback, make sure you follow it up with the thank you note in order to express gratitude for their time and consideration.

A feedback after an interview provides important pointers to improve and gear you better for the next one. Thus, instead of feeling dejected at rejections in the job market; take the opportunity to ask for feedbacks from the interviewers that will help you in the long run.
