淺析英語比較級(jí)和最高級(jí)前冠詞的使用規(guī)律
一、基本規(guī)律
在通常情況下，英語比較級(jí)前不用冠詞，形容詞最高級(jí)前用定冠詞，副詞最高級(jí)前可以用定冠詞，也可以不用。如：
This homework is all right but you could do it better. 這份家庭作業(yè)還算可以，其實(shí)你可以做得更好。
That is the best way to prevent such a thing happening again. 這是防止這樣的事再次發(fā)生的最好辦法。
The boss praised those who had worked (the) hardest. 老板表揚(yáng)了那些工作最努力的人。
二、比較級(jí)前冠詞使用規(guī)律
比較級(jí)前通常不用冠詞，但有時(shí)也用，這主要見于以下情形：
1. 當(dāng)比較級(jí)后接名詞時(shí)，比較級(jí)前可能用冠詞，此時(shí)的冠詞不是修飾比較級(jí)，而是修飾其后的名詞。如：
Which of them is the better choice?—Well, it’s hard to tell. 他們誰是更合適的人選?——嗯，這很難說。
Some of the more time-consuming jobs can now be done by machines. 有些更費(fèi)時(shí)間的工作現(xiàn)在可以用機(jī)器做了.
但是，若受比較級(jí)修飾的名詞為表泛指的復(fù)數(shù)名詞或不可數(shù)名詞，則仍不用冠詞。如：
He’s got more money than the rest of us (put) together. 他的錢比我們大家的加在一起的總數(shù)還多。
Fewer people write with their left hand than with their right. 用左手寫字的人比用右手的少。
2. 當(dāng)要特指兩者中“較(更)……”時(shí)，比較級(jí)前通常要帶定冠詞，此時(shí)可視為比較級(jí)后省略了有關(guān)的名詞或代詞one，即定冠詞實(shí)為修飾被省略的名詞或代詞one。如：
Which of the two methods is the better? 這兩種方法哪一種更好?
Of the two possibilities, this is more likely than that. 兩個(gè)可能性中，后者比前者更可能。
3. 在比較級(jí)前用the表示程度(通常有表示原因、理由或條件的短語或從句)。如：
He’s had a holiday and looks the better for it. 他度假之后，氣色好多了。
I love him all the more for his faults. 正因?yàn)樗@些缺點(diǎn)，所以我越發(fā)愛他。
4. 用于“the+比較級(jí)，the+比較級(jí)”，表示“越……越……”。如：
The younger you are, the easier it is to learn. 年紀(jì)越輕，學(xué)習(xí)越容易。
The better I know her, the more I admire her. 我對(duì)她越了解，我就越愛慕她。
The more money you make, the more you spend. 你掙的錢越多，花的錢也越多。
5. 當(dāng)by far用于修飾比較級(jí)且置于其前時(shí)，比較級(jí)前要用the。如：
He is by far the cleverer than her. 他比她聰明得多。
It’s quicker by far to go by train. 坐火車去要快得多。
注：與比較級(jí)連用，通常要放在比較級(jí)之后，若放在比較級(jí)前，則比較級(jí)通常應(yīng)帶有冠詞。如：
He is cleverer by far than her.
It’s by far the quicker to go by train.
三、最高級(jí)前冠詞使用規(guī)律
1. 在形容詞最高級(jí)前通常用the。如：
He’s the best teacher even though he has the least experience. 他盡管經(jīng)驗(yàn)最少，但教得最好。
2. 當(dāng)最高級(jí)形容詞用作表語(尤其是用于which后)且不帶比較范圍時(shí)，the有時(shí)(尤其是非正式場(chǎng)合)可以省略。如：
This dictionary is (the) best. 這本詞典最好。
Which of the boys is (the) strongest? 這些男孩子當(dāng)中哪個(gè)力氣最大?
但是，當(dāng)處于表語位置的最高級(jí)帶有比較范圍或帶有限定性修飾語時(shí)，其前的the通常不能省去。如：
This dictionary is the best I could find. 這是我能找到的最好的詞典。
He was the strongest of all the students. 他是所有學(xué)生中最強(qiáng)壯的。
3. 當(dāng)most表示“非常”時(shí)，若其后形容詞所修飾的名詞為單數(shù)可數(shù)且表示泛指意義，那么其前用不定冠詞而不用定冠詞。如：
I had a most unpleasant time at the dentist’s. 我在牙醫(yī)那里受了大罪。
She is a most mysterious person. 她是一個(gè)非常神秘的人。
4. 當(dāng)要對(duì)同一個(gè)人或事物在不同情況下進(jìn)行對(duì)比時(shí)，處于表語位置的最高級(jí)形容詞前不能加the。如：
It’s safest to go by bus. 坐公共汽車去最安全。
Vegetables are best when they are fresh. 蔬菜新鮮時(shí)最好吃。
比較：
He’s busiest on Sunday. 他星期天最忙。(他與自己平時(shí)比)
He’s the busiest of all the people here. 他是這兒所有人當(dāng)中最忙的。(他與別人比)
5. 與形容詞的最高級(jí)一樣，當(dāng)要對(duì)同一個(gè)人或事物在不同情況下進(jìn)行對(duì)比時(shí)，副詞最高級(jí)前也不能加the。如：
He works hardest when he’s doing something for his family. 他為自己家做事時(shí)最賣力。
比較：
Of all the workers, he works (the) hardest. 在所有工人中，他干活最賣力。
