　　詞根：cap, cep, ceiv,ceip, cip = cup 拿，抓，握住

　　1. capacity

　　助記：cap(拿)+acity(表狀態(tài)，情況)→能拿住→(有)能力

　　釋義：n. 容量，容積;接受力;能量，能力

　　舉例：

　　(1) Ournew hall has a seating capacity of 1,000.

　　我們的新禮堂能夠容納1,000人就座。

　　(2) Thetest is used to measure a child’s capacity for learning。

　　這種測試用于衡量兒童的學(xué)習(xí)能力。

　　2. capture

　　助記：capt(抓)+ ure(表行為)→抓住→捕獲

　　釋義：v. 俘虜，捕獲，占領(lǐng);引起注意，吸引住

　　舉例：

　　(1) Hewas captured during the war and put in a Vietnamese prison camp。

　　戰(zhàn)爭期間他被捕了，被送進(jìn)了越南的一個監(jiān)獄營。

　　(2) Theleading actor on the stage captured our attention。

　　舞臺上的主角吸引了我們的注意力。

　　3. concept

　　助記：con(一起)+cept(抓，引申為接受)→大家都接受的東西→理念

　　釋義：n. 理念，觀念，概念

　　舉例：

　　Sheadded that the concept of arranged marriages is misunderstood in the west。

　　她補(bǔ)充說包辦婚姻的概念在西方被誤解了。

　　4. deceive

　　助記：de(變壞)+ceive(拿，抓)→用不好的手段拿→欺騙

　　釋義：v. 欺騙，蒙蔽

　　舉例：

　　I donot wish to deceive the young girl who loves me。

　　我不想欺騙這個愛我的年輕女孩。

　　5. perceive

　　助記：per(全部)+ ceive(拿，抓)→全部拿住→察覺，感知

　　釋義：v. 察覺，感知;理解，領(lǐng)悟

　　舉例：

　　(1) Iperceived a slight sour taste in the wine。

　　我覺得酒里有股淡淡的酸味兒。

　　(2) Iperceived John’s comments as a challenge。

　　我把約翰的話當(dāng)作是一種挑戰(zhàn)。

　　6. receive

　　助記：re(再)+ceive(拿，抓)→把…拿回來→接收到

　　釋義：v. 收到，遭到，接待

　　舉例：

　　Hereceived more of the blame than anyone when the plan failed to work。

　　當(dāng)計劃失敗之后他受到的指責(zé)比任何人都多。

　　7. anticipate

　　助記：anti(先)+ cip(拿)+ ate(做)→先拿到(想法)→預(yù)料，預(yù)感

　　釋義：v. 預(yù)料，預(yù)感，預(yù)期

　　舉例：

　　Atthe time we couldn't have anticipated the result of our campaigning。

　　當(dāng)時我們不可能預(yù)期到我們活動的結(jié)果。

　　8. participate

　　助記：part(部分)+cip(拿，抓，握住)+ate(做)→抓住成為一部分→參與

　　釋義：v. 參加，共享

　　舉例：

　　(1) Theyexpected him to participate in the ceremony。

　　他們希望他參加這個典禮。

　　(2)I participate your suffering and joy。

　　我和你同甘共苦。

　　9. principle

　　助記：prin(主要的)+cip(拿，抓，握住)+le(名詞詞尾) →抓住主要的東西→原理，原則

　　釋義：n. 原理，原則

　　舉例：

　　(1) Thesepeople lack all understanding of scientific principles。

　　這些人缺乏對科學(xué)原理的全面理解。

　　(2) Abicycle and a motorcycle are built on the same principle。

　　自行車和摩托車是根據(jù)同樣的原理制造的。

　　10. principal

　　助記：prin(第一，首要)+cip(取)+ al(人，物)→拿主意的第一個人→校長，負(fù)責(zé)人

　　釋義：a. 主要的;n. 校長，負(fù)責(zé)人;主角;資本

　　舉例：

　　(1) Throughit all Richard Nixon moved as if he were himself a spectator, not theprincipal。

　　尼克松自始至終表現(xiàn)得像旁觀者，而不是主角。

　　(2) Howmuch interest will there be on a principal of $5000?

　　5000美元本金的利息是多少?

　　11. occupy

　　助記：oc(再次)+cupy(抓)→抓住地盤→占領(lǐng)

　　釋義：v. 占領(lǐng)，占據(jù);使忙碌

　　舉例：

　　(1) Theyare occupying themselves in growing their own food。

　　他們自己正忙于種植自己所需的糧食。

　　(2) Evensmall aircrafts occupy a lot of space。

　　即便小飛機(jī)也會占用很多空間。

　　詞根：ann, enn = year 年

　　1.annals

　　助記：ann(年)+ al(名詞后綴)→年鑒

　　釋義：n. 編年史，年報，年鑒

　　舉例：

　　Hehas become a legend in the annals of military history。

　　他成了軍事編年史上的一個傳奇。

　　2. perennial

　　助記：per(始終)+ennial(年的)→終年的

　　釋義：a. 四季不斷的，終年的，長期的

　　舉例：

　　Ourperennial problem is not having enough money。

　　長期困擾我們的問題就是缺錢。

　　3. disaster

　　助記：dis(消失)+aster(星星)→星星消失了，預(yù)示著災(zāi)難的來臨

　　釋義：n. 災(zāi)難，天災(zāi)，災(zāi)禍

　　舉例：

　　It was the second air disaster in the region in less thantwo months。

　　這是不到兩個月內(nèi)該地區(qū)內(nèi)的第2起空難。

　　4. astrology

　　助記：astro(星星)+logy(學(xué)說)→關(guān)于星星的學(xué)問→占星學(xué)

　　釋義：n. 占星術(shù)，占星學(xué)

　　舉例：

　　Astronomy inherits from astrology。

　　天文學(xué)的前身是占星術(shù)。

　　5. astronomy

　　助記：astro(星星)+nomy(規(guī)則，法則，習(xí)慣，關(guān)于某個事物的知識)→關(guān)于星星的知識→天文學(xué)

　　釋義：n. 天文學(xué)

　　舉例：

　　He dipped into astronomy。

　　他對天文學(xué)稍有涉獵。

　　詞根：dict= say 說

　　1. dictatorial

　　助記：dict(說)+at(動詞詞尾)+or(名詞詞尾)+ial(形容詞詞尾) →聽一個人說的→獨(dú)裁的

　　釋義：a. 獨(dú)裁的

　　舉例：

　　The revolution bring about the downfall of thedictatorial regime。

　　革命推翻了獨(dú)裁政權(quán)。

　　2. predictable

　　助記：pre(預(yù)先)+dict(說)+ able(形容詞后綴，表示可以被…的，有…能力的)→可以被預(yù)先說的→可預(yù)測的

　　釋義：a. 可預(yù)見的，可預(yù)測的

　　舉例：

　　This was a predictable reaction, given the bitterhostility between the two countries。

　　考慮到兩國之間的強(qiáng)烈敵意，這種反應(yīng)是可以預(yù)見的。

　　3. indicator

　　助記：in + dic(說)+or(表人或物)→提供指示的人或物→指示器

　　釋義：n. 指示器，[化學(xué)] 指示劑

　　舉例：

　　He flipped his indicator, and took a left。

　　他打開汽車方向燈，向左轉(zhuǎn)了彎。

　　4. contradict

　　助記：contra(反對)+dict(說)→說反對的話→反駁

　　釋義：v. 反駁，否定;同…矛盾，同…抵觸

　　舉例：

　　(1) She dared not contradict him。

　　她不敢反駁他。

　　(2) Her version contradicted her daughter's。

　　她的說法與她女兒的說法相矛盾。

　　詞根：fac, fact, fec, fic, fit, fea, fig =make, do 制造，做

　　1. manufacture

　　助記：manu(手)+ fact(做)+ ure→用手做→制造，加工

　　釋義：n. 制造業(yè)，產(chǎn)品;v. 加工，制造

　　舉例：

　　(1) These new orders for ourmanufactures will mean working overtime。

　　這些訂購我們產(chǎn)品的新訂單意味著要加班。

　　(2) We manufacture various types of machinetools。

　　我公司生產(chǎn)各種型號的機(jī)床。

　　2. facilitate

　　助記：fac(做)+ilitate(能夠)→使能夠做→使容易

　　釋義：v. 使容易，使便利，促進(jìn)

　　舉例：

　　(1) The new underground railway willfacilitate the journey to all parts of the city。

　　新的地下鐵路將為去城市的任何地方提供方便。

　　(2) Friendly contacts between differentpeoples facilitate the cultural and economic interchange。

　　各國人民的友好接觸促進(jìn)了文化和經(jīng)濟(jì)交流。

　　3. defect

　　助記：de(向下)+fect(做)→沒做好→缺陷

　　釋義：n. 缺陷，缺點(diǎn)

　　舉例：

　　A report has pointed out the defects ofthe present system。

　　一份報告指出了現(xiàn)有體制的缺陷。

　　4. infection

　　助記：in(向內(nèi))+fec(做)+ tion(名詞后綴)→做進(jìn)去→傳染進(jìn)去→感染

　　釋義：n. 傳染，感染，影響

　　舉例：

　　(1) Air, water, clothing and insectsare all means of infection。

　　空氣、水、衣服、及昆蟲都會成為疾病的傳染媒介。

　　(2) The book has a long infection onreaders。

　　這本書對讀者產(chǎn)生了長遠(yuǎn)影響。

　　5. profit

　　助記：pro(前，向前)+fit(制造，做)→向前地做→做得好→利潤

　　釋義：n. 利潤，利益;v. 有利于;獲利

　　舉例：

　　(1) You can improve your chances ofprofit by sensible planning。

　　你可以通過合理的計劃增加盈利的機(jī)會。

　　(2) No one was profiting inordinatelyfrom the war effort。

　　沒有人在從戰(zhàn)爭中發(fā)大財。

　　6. feature

　　助記：fea(做)+ture(名詞詞根，表一般狀態(tài)，行為)→做事的狀態(tài)→做事的特征

　　釋義：n. 面貌，特征

　　舉例：

　　(1) Wet weather is a feature of life inthis area。

　　天氣潮濕是這個地區(qū)生活的一個特征。

　　(2) His features seemed to change。

　　他的容貌似乎變了。

　　7. feasible

　　助記：f +easi(看做easy容易的)+ ble→容易做到的→可行的

　　釋義：a. 可行的，切實(shí)可行的

　　舉例：

　　It is not feasible to build seadefenses to protect against erosion。

　　修筑海堤防止侵蝕是不可行的。

　　8. defeat

　　助記：de(下，向下)+feat(來自于beat：打)→打下去→打倒，打敗

　　釋義：n./v。擊敗，戰(zhàn)勝，失敗，挫敗

　　舉例：

　　(1) The most important thing is not toadmit defeat until you really have to。

　　最重要的事就是非到不得已不要認(rèn)輸。

　　(2) His guerrillas defeated thecolonial army in 1954.

　　他的游擊隊在1954年打敗了殖民軍。

　　9. figure

　　助記：fig(做)+ ure(名詞后綴，表結(jié)果，狀態(tài))→做出來的狀態(tài)→形象

　　釋義：n. 數(shù)字，人物，體形，輪廓，插圖; v. 描述，計算，猜想，出現(xiàn)

　　舉例：

　　(1) I like the color of the hat insteadof its figure。

　　雖然我喜歡這頂帽子的顏色，但我不喜歡它的形狀。

　　(2) How do you figure that?

　　你如何料到的?

　　ced, ceed, cess = go 行走

　　1. ancestor

　　助記：anc(先前)+ces(來自于cess：走)+ tor(…人，…物)→先前走的人→祖先，祖宗

　　釋義：n. 祖先，祖宗

　　舉例：

　　People who share an ancestor are calledrelatives。

　　有著同一個祖先的人叫親戚。

　　2. exceed

　　助記：ex(出)+ceed(走)→走出→越出，超過

　　釋義：v. 超越，超出

　　舉例：

　　He accepts that he was exceeding thespeed limit。

　　他承認(rèn)他當(dāng)時超過了速限。

　　3. proceed

　　助記：pro(前，向前)+ceed(走，前進(jìn))→向前走→進(jìn)行，繼續(xù)下去

　　釋義：v. 繼續(xù)進(jìn)行，前進(jìn)

　　舉例：

　　He proceeded to tell me of my birth。

　　他接著給我講了我的出生。

　　4. access

　　助記：ac(一再)+cess(行，走)→走過來→接近，進(jìn)入

　　釋義：n. 接近，入口，通道，[計]存取

　　舉例：

　　This is the only means of access to thebuilding。

　　這是進(jìn)入這棟樓的唯一入口。

　　5. successive

　　助記：suc(隨后)+cess(行走，前進(jìn))+ive……的→隨后跟上→連續(xù)的

　　釋義：a. 繼承的， 連續(xù)的

　　舉例：

　　Jackson was the winner for a secondsuccessive year。

　　杰克遜是連續(xù)第二年的獲勝者。

　　詞根：duc,duct = lead 引導(dǎo)

　　1. deduction

　　助記：de(向下)+duce(引導(dǎo)，帶來)+tion表名詞→向下引→演繹，推論;扣除，減去，扣除額

　　釋義：n. 減除，扣除，推論，演繹

　　舉例：

　　(1) tax deductions

　　稅金扣除額

　　(2) Your deduction is definitelyunreasonable。

　　你的推論無疑是不合理的。

　　2. introduction

　　助記：intro(向內(nèi)，入內(nèi)，進(jìn)入)+ duce(引導(dǎo)，帶來)+tion表名詞→向下引→介紹，引入

　　釋義：n. 介紹，引入

　　舉例：

　　(1) There is an introduction aboutNorway in this magazine。

　　這本雜志里有一篇關(guān)于挪威的介紹文章。

　　(2) There are two among their recentintroductions that have greatly impressed me。

　　他們最新引進(jìn)的產(chǎn)品中有兩件給我留下了深刻的印象。

　　3. reduction

　　助記：re(往回)+duce(引導(dǎo)，帶來)+tion表名詞→往回引→減少，縮減

　　釋義：n. 減少，縮減

　　舉例：

　　4. misconduct

　　助記：mis(mis錯誤，厭惡，錯過)+con(共同)+ duce(引導(dǎo)，帶來)→錯誤引導(dǎo)大家→干壞事

　　釋義：n. 不正當(dāng)?shù)男袨?v. 干壞事

　　舉例：
