A Comparison Between Chinese and English Subordinators
Abstract
In the process of English learning, the appropriate application of subordinators, one of the major difficulties, often puzzles most Chinese students, for different people have different ways of thought which lead to different habitual expressions. This thesis focuses on contrastive study of subordinators between Chinese and English: the syntax function of subordinators between Chinese and English are the same, but the classification of relative categories, positions in complex sentences and function words used together with them are different. The various characteristics of the two types of subordinators, which belong to the two non-related languages, are revealed in demonstrating the logical and semantic relations between main and subordinate clauses. It is hoped that through contrastive study it will be easier for Chinese students to get a better command of Chinese and English syntax, and what is more, to improve their competence and performance in that language. The thesis consists of four parts. In part one, it presents the development of contrastive linguistics. From part two to part four, it discusses the differences of subordinators between Chinese and English in semantic function, in complex sentence and in matching format.

摘 要
由于語(yǔ)言本身以及文化和思維方式的不同，中國(guó)學(xué)生在英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)的過(guò)程中遇到許多困難。在這其中，從屬連詞的恰當(dāng)使用是英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)的難點(diǎn)之1。本文旨在通過(guò)對(duì)比分析這1語(yǔ)言研究的基本方法對(duì)漢英從屬連詞進(jìn)行了1個(gè)比較詳盡的對(duì)比：從句法功能來(lái)看漢英從屬連詞大體相同，但在關(guān)系范疇的分類、連接方式及搭配格式上漢英從屬連詞存在差異，兩種非親屬語(yǔ)言的從屬連詞在體現(xiàn)主從句的邏輯語(yǔ)義關(guān)系方面存在許多異同特征。通過(guò)對(duì)這些異同特征的比較,有助于我們的學(xué)習(xí)者加深對(duì)漢、英句法結(jié)構(gòu)的認(rèn)識(shí)，從而達(dá)到跨文化交際的目的。本文由4部分組成。第1部分對(duì)英漢對(duì)比語(yǔ)言學(xué)進(jìn)行了概況介紹并提出了本文進(jìn)行從屬連詞對(duì)比研究的層面和方法。第2部分就漢英從屬連詞在語(yǔ)義功能上的不同進(jìn)行了比較。第3部分就漢英從屬連詞在主從句中的位置差異進(jìn)行了比較。第4部分就漢英從屬連詞搭配格式上的不同進(jìn)行了比較。
